FACE OF MATURITY

Real Stories from real people about what happens to aging bodies.

The below is from Marie Grieco.

I was the entertainer, the Martha Stewart of my group, the do it your-selfer who painted, spackled, climbed ladders, distressed and refinished furniture cause I could do it all.

My aunt would say, “Slow down, it catches up to you.” I thought, “yeah, yeah, yeah, blah blah blah. “That’s not going to happen to me.”

Well it has and she was right.

Not only do the bones ache, I look in the mirror every morning, pull my face and neck back to my ears and think my skin is going to stay there but it just falls right back to its comfortable position. When did I get that age spot? It wasn’t there last time I looked?

What happened to my waist? Why do my knees hurt when I go down the stairs, and why do I feel like the Hunchback of Notre Dame when I step onto the floor each morning?

Why are the compliments so scarce? Men used to look at me, now they look the other way!!!!!

Guess it’s called aging so why and I still in denial? The other day I stopped in a hair salon to find out the hours of their store and what they charged for a hair cut. The young receptionist said, “Seniors are 15.00.” Ouch!”

I’m still looking for that magical tape to hold everything up. What’s it called… plastic surgery on a roll?

The solution I have come up with is to just hang out with people MUCH OLDER than me!

Ahhh but I have wisdom and I was chosen to decorate the White House for the holidays last year.

With wisdom and age comes wondrous things! So I’ll just deal with it cause 60 is the new 40? Ha ha.

I was fantastic at 50 but not so sensational at 60!
